Behaviors: Definitions

    • Inappropriate Language – Student engages in low-intensity instance of inappropriate language.
    • Physical Contact - Student engages in non-serious, but inappropriate physical contact.
    • Defiance/Disrespect/Non-Compliance - Student engages in brief or low-intensity failure to respond to adult requests.
    • Disruption - Student engages in low-intensity, but inappropriate disruption.
    • Property Misuse - Student engages in low-intensity misuse of property.
    • Abusive Language/Inappropriate Language/Profanity - Student engages in verbal messages that include swearing, name-calling or use of words in an inappropriate way.
    • Fighting/Physical Aggression - Student engages in actions involving serious physical contact where injury may occur (hitting, punching, hitting with an object, kicking, biting – breaking the skin, leaving marks, doing intentionally).
    • Harassment/Bullying - Student delivers repeated messages that include threats, intimidation, obscene gestures, pictures, and/or written notes.  Student repeatedly makes physical contact with an individual disregarding adult requests to stop.
    • Repetitive Disruptions - Student engages in a behavior that interrupts classroom instruction or class activity continuously.
    • Property Damage/Vandalism – Student deliberately impairs the usefulness of school property or property of peers.
    • Theft – Student is in possession of something that does not belong to him/her without the owner’s permission.
    • Use/Possession of Weapons – Student is in possession of knives or guns (real or look alike) or other objects capable to causing bodily harm.
    • Obtain Peer Attention:  Student engages in problem behavior(s) to gain peer(s) attention.
    • Obtain Adult Attention:  Student engages in problem behavior(s) to gain adult(s) attention.
    • Obtain Items/Activities:  Student engages in problem behavior(s) to gain items and/or activities.
    • Avoid Tasks/Activities:  Student engages in problem behavior(s) to get away/escape from tasks and/or activities.
    • Avoid Peer(s):  Student engages in problem behavior(s) to get away from/escape peer(s).
    • Avoid Adult:  Student engages in problem behavior(s) to get away from adult(s).
    • Other:  Possible motivation for referral is not listed above.  Staff using this area will specify the possible motivation for this student’s problem behavior.
    • Unknown Motivation:  Student engages in problem behavior(s) for unclear reason.
    • None:  Student engages in problem behavior incident alone.
    •  Peers:  Student engages in problem behavior incident with peer(s).
    • Staff:  Student engages in problem behavior incident with staff.
