I grew up in Sikeston and graduated from Sikeston High in the 90’s. I graduated from SEMO University with a degree in Early Childhood Studies and in Early Childhood Education with a minor in Child Life Services. I am certified to teach Early Childhood Education (birth through grade 3) and Early Childhood Special Education (birth through grade 3).
I began my teaching career with Sikeston Public Schools in 2005. My first position was teaching second grade at Southeast Elementary. The next school year I went to the Kindergarten Center to teach ECSE (early childhood special education).
While attending college I held an internship at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. There, I volunteered on the Child Life Services team. I would interact with the children in the hospital. We would either play games, make crafts, do puzzles, etc, or I would go over the procedure(s) that they may be going through later on that day. I also held a job. One job I enjoyed was working at a daycare center. I also had the opportunity to work for First Steps of Missouri as a Developmental Play Therapist. As a Developmental Play Therapist I got to go into homes to visit with children birth through 3 years of age to encourage their development.
I am married with 5 wonderful children. My two daughters, Lydia and Meradith, attend Sikeston Public Schools. The other three children, Mason, Lacey and Jett, are my bonus kids, that attend school elsewhere.
